JENNIFER SHORTO
Jennifer Shorto’s work grows from a lifelong engagement with textile history and a life shaped by travel. She grew up in Belgium and lived in Brazil, Paris, Mexico, and has been based in London since 2016, where her studio is established in Notting Hill. Born of fantasy and the spirit of adventure, her collections draw on fabric history, distant geographies and the language of woven and printed cloth. Textiles and wallpapers are approached as a form of exploration where art and historic references are intertwined. Her fabrics are woven in England and Italy, within long-standing centres of textile craftsmanship, from the historic weaving traditions of Spitalfields to the Italian mills of Como. The wallpapers are printed in England, continuing a deep-rooted tradition of fine wallpaper printing.
